THE NILAYA, A SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
We manage the NILAYA as much as possible with the principles of sustainable development.
Solar energy and re-use of the water
The sun heats our water. We doubled our capacity to 600 liters for your comfort during rainy days. We changed our toilets to save water – always a problem in Mauritius. We collect and clean the water of the showers to water our garden. Waste water is collected in our own septic tank.
Cool rooms, shady terrace
I have designed The NILAYA so that air con is rarely necessary. The shadows of our mango trees cool the house on the North side – which is the sunny side in the southern hemisphere. In all rooms you can make a draft through the anti-mosquito windows. An internal corridor and an open roof terrace cool naturally the rooms.
We replace slowly all plastics with natural materials produced by Mauritian artists.
Biological garden
Our garden is mainly an orchard with many fruit trees. We produce our own fresh juice and marmelades. My garden is managed without chemicals. I only add compost, produced with our natural waste. I feed so many birds, which eat the insects. So I do not need any insecticide.
Fair salaries for a perfect service
Our team and all the Mauritians we work with, are well paid for a quality service for you. This is a win-win situation for everybody. I try to produce an atmosphere of serenity, so that everybody feels happy in the NILAYA.
Mauritius, sustainable island
The NILAYA contributes as much as possible to Mauritius, a sustainable island. To multiply our ideas also around us, I created an ngo, l’Association pour le Développement Durable de Flic en Flac (ADDFF).
