MAURITIUS AN ISLAND TO EXPLORE
Flic en Flac is a good starting point for all your activities:
In the village of Flic en Flac and just around
On the 5 km long, white sand beach, you can walk on one side to the village of Tamarin, -known for its high waves in winter, hot spot for the surfers -, or on the other side of the beach to the little fishermen’s port, where you can buy every day fresh fish.
You can swim in the transparent water of the lagoon and snorkel in between the multicoloured fish and corals.
You can walk through the sugar cane fields to Casela, the magnificient bird park and to Medine, the sugar cane industry, which smells caramel and produces a delicious rhum.
For all the night birds, Flic en Flac has a casino, many restaurants, traditionnel sega evenings and discothek in the hotels or the typical Mauritian night life on the beach on Saturday evenings.
A little bit further:
With the direct busses, you can be driven into the capital, Port Louis, ‘India light’ and Quatre Bornes with its big cloth market. From these bus stations, you can join nearly all destinations. But pe prepared for adventurous bus rides!
The driver and guide of the NILAYA, Shyam, will be delighted to make you discover all the ‘musts’ of Mauritius, as:
The Wild South with the seven coloured earth in Chamarel, the National Park of Rivière Noire, the sacred lake, the Reserve Vanille, ‘chez Rosie’ in Grisgris, the mythical Morne
The Tea Route
The romantic East with the Coral Garden of Blue Bay and the Aigrettes Island
The North with its beautiful beaches, the Garden of Pamplemousses, the Tamil temple, the seamen’s cemetery and the church on the beach
Cultural Mauritius with the Penny Museum, National History Museum and Shell Museum in Port Louis, Sugar Museum in Pamplemousses and the Historical Museum in Mahébourg.
And as Mauritius is surrounded by small islands, don’t miss the Benitiers Island with its dolphins with the boat of Kissen, Flat Island with the sailing boat Babacool and the islands before Mahebourg and the Coral Garden of Blue Bay with the redesigned fisherman’s boat Totoff. The lagoon is turquoise and the picnic is delicious.
You’ll get all the information about local festivals, like fire walking, pilgrimages on Maha Shivatree or to Père Laval and multicoloured weddings, and of course the information how to attend.
I would be happy to organise all that and much more, depending on your personal interests.
